G'day. I'm Tom. Thanks for checking out my folio. I'm a writer, photographer and content producer specialising in international development - and I love what I do.
I'm originally from Melbourne, but Sydney's been my home for a decade now. And I've called Brisbane, Honiara and Barcelona home at various points in my life, too.
Things I love doing: surfing, photography, running, being a Dad, woodworking, playing records, and hanging out in parks with my dog, Sunny.
Work-wise, I started out in media/comms, and after doing plenty of travel, I ended up in the international development sector, which I've been in for nearly 20 years now, and I really enjoy it. I've worked in full time roles for the World Bank, the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs (DFAT), CARE International, and now at the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC). Other clients I've worked with include the Commonwealth Secretariat, the Permanent Mission of Australia to the U.N. and various publications throughout Asia-Pacific.
I like telling stories, but even more; I love helping other people tell theirs. Here's a video - a few years' old now - that shows a bit about my approach:
